FAQ

These are questions we really do frequently get asked.
If you're new to sex toys, take a minute to discover why they are so popular and why every individual and couple should have (at least) one.

Water-based lube is the safest, most common option because it's non-irritating, easy to clean off, and compatible with pretty much all types of sex toys and contraceptives. Flavored, edible water-based lubricants are also popular and fun, though they may contain yeast-encouraging sugar and glycerin. Silicone-based lube is typically more expensive and harder to wash off, but lasts longer than water-based lubes. Although silicone versions are safe to use with latex contraceptives, they cannot be used with silicone sex toys due to silicone-on-silicone reactions. Check out our lubes and lotions guide for additional information.

If you're buying your first vibe it should be multi-speed and not too big unless you're really sure you like big. Keep it inexpensive for your first one, but definitely good quality. Vibes that can be used either externally or internally (the cylindrical vibes) are good because they're multi-purpose. Other than that, choose something that looks fun to you since this is the point—to have fun! Check out our sex toys for her and sex toys for him guides for additional information.

You might consider checking out a rechargeable or plug-in vibe. The Magic Wand is a big, powerful plug-in that also comes in a rechargeable option. For a tiny, hand-held toy try the Point by nu Sensuelle they're rechargeable and have a wide variety of vibration settings. And if you're looking for a toy to use with or without a partner, the We-vibe is a quiet, multi-function rechargeable toy made of 100% silicone.

Don't use a vibrator in a bath or hot tub unless the packaging or product description clearly indicates that it's waterproof. Some of our toys are labeled as “splash proof”, but those models cannot be submerged under water. NOTE: Never bring a plug-in sex toy into the bath or hot tub.

Generally, battery-powered vibrators tend to be less powerful than electric-powered vibrators. Electric-powered vibrators tend to be designed with stronger motors which use more power, which means you don't have to worry about electricity running out like with batteries.

Some manufacturers include batteries with their product, while other products are rechargeable. Check the individual product descriptions to see if batteries are included.

Vibrators come in different styles because people like to use them in different ways. For example, a clitoral vibrator is designed to stimulate the clitoris while a G-spot vibrator is designed to stimulate the G-spot. There are many different styles to choose from and some vibrators even combine two or more different styles. For example the Jack Rabbit vibrator stimulates the clitoris with the "bunny" attachement while also stimulating the G-Spot with the twisting shaft, and the outer-vaginal area with the spinning beads. It is best to choose a style that responds to your body, creating stimulation.

Depending on the quality of the vibrator, they can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. Cheaper vibrators tend to break down relatively quickly, so if you are looking for quality, spend that little extra to have a longer-lasting vibrator.

Clitoral orgasms are achieved by stimulating the clitoris and usually are quicker and very intense. Vaginal orgasms can take some time to build but are often a deeply powerful experience.

Yes they can. In fact, We-Vibe makes a selection of vibrators designed for use during intercourse. Bullet vibrators also work particularity well for this purpose. If you don't have access to a bullet vibrator, any small vibrator will do. You and your partner will both enjoy the stimulation from using a vibrator together.

It is generally considered safe to use a vibrator during pregnancy. If your doctor has given you the green light for sexual intercourse, then it's generally accepted that you also have the OK to use a vibrator.

This is up to you and your friend. If your concerned about sexual safety, make sure you have that conversation with your friend. You might just want to buy a second vibe to surprise your friend with instead.

The best place to store a vibrator is in a cool, dry place. Moisture is actually the number one cause of damage for vibrators! Avoiding moisture will go a long way towards keeping a vibrator in good working condition.

Some toy's (but not all!) have a smell due to the combination of materials used to manufacture your toy. The quickest way to eliminate the smell is to wash your toy with adult toy cleaner or mild soap, and let it air dry before you use it.

A penis pump is a device that increases blood flow to the penis via vacuum pressure and can aid in achieving and maintaining an erection.

Your first sex toy should be something that is personal and definitely catches your eye. Many popular first sex toys are often vibrators or dildos. The rule of the thumb is to start with small sex toys and work your way up to larger sizes. Keep your first sex toy adventure simple and fun, so you will want to come back for more.

It's just like trying anything new, you need to make sure your partner is comfortable with this new experience! Explain that a sex toy is not a replacement for your partner, but a fun way to add even more pleasure and excitement to your sex life. And of course don't forget to tell them how much fun it is! :)
